What’s It All About?
Post-natal care kicks in after you and your newborn are discharged from the MOU or Clinic, usually around six hours after a smooth delivery. It’s crucial to swing by your nearest clinic for a checkup within three days after leaving the birthing unit.
Baby’s First Health Check
The clinic will keep an eye on your little one’s umbilical cord for the first three days to ensure it’s healthy. Plus, they’ll offer support with feeding to make sure your baby gets all the nourishment they need.
Special Care for Special Cases
For babies with low birth weight, there’s something called Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). It involves keeping your baby close—nappy, cap, and nestled on your bare chest between your breasts. If possible, feeding them your milk is encouraged.
Mom’s Well-Being Matters
Moms, your health is as vital as your baby’s! Clinic visits will check that everything’s back in place and offer counseling on contraception options.
Emotional Support Is Key
Sometimes being a new mom can feel overwhelming. The clinic staff are trained to spot signs of post-natal struggles like “baby blues” or depression. If needed, they can provide counseling, medication, or further care.
