This comprehensive guide delineates the steps required to rectify administrative errors and change personal details, ensuring accuracy and precision in the certification process. Let’s delve into the intricacies of this process and navigate the path to attaining a correctly detailed matric certificate.

Correcting Matric Certificates

Candidates have a twelve-month window from the date of issue to request corrections on their certificates. However, changes to an original certificate won’t be entertained without returning the original (not a replacement).

Name Change Process

To modify your name on the matric certificate, complete the Re-issues application form available at the Department of Basic Education (DBE) or Provincial Education Department (PED).

In-Person Application

Visit the nearest DBE/PED offices in person for an interview with officials before amendments are made.

Temporary Record

While waiting for the certificate, a statement of results can be issued as an interim record.

Reasons for Reissue:

Administrative Errors

Within six months after certification or up to a year after the final examination, request a re-issue due to school or departmental registration errors.

Alteration of Sex Description and Status

Apply for re-issue via the DBE/PED after receiving approval for sex-description alteration from the Department of Home Affairs.

Required Documentation

  • Certified copies of old and new Identity Documents
  • Detailed sworn statement (affidavit) by the candidate
  • Original certificate
  • Letter from the Department of Home Affairs confirming the sex description alteration
